“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden, or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because of you. This is to have succeeded. ”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
The Arts and Crafts Movement + Yoga Philosophy= Inside The Bungalow
The Arts and Crafts Movement (late 1800s) originated as a need to return to authentic living and a rebellion to cheaply made mass produced ornate Victorian furniture. Artisans looked for inspiration in nature and locally designed objects, building homes, etc. Formality was exchanged for functionality. Quality became more valued than quantity. At the heart of this movement was the need to find joy in work, live simply, stay connected to nature and maintain integrity.
Yoga philosophy (dating back 5,000 years) is based on the art of relationships. Yoga means “to yoke” or “unite.” Yoga teaches us that we are all interconnected. With so much of our attention pulled outside of us on a daily basis, we forget our core connection. Yoga allows us to embrace each moment with a sense of awe by letting go of habitual conditioning. As a result we achieve a richer connection with ourselves and are more capable of sharing our gifts with others.
Inside The Bungalow, located in historic downtown Mesa, Arizona grew out of these two philosophies. Both the yoga studio and cafe are housed in craftsman bungalow homes. Architectural details, original hardwood floors, fireplaces and French doors are just a few of the qualities that create a unique and comforting setting. Offering quality products and services and having fun is what we do best. Inside The Bungalow is a one of a kind community rooted in wholesome values, connection, fun, and awareness and acceptance of self and others. Our mission is to provide quality products and services, fun activities and special events in a friendly, historic neighborhood setting, to foster community relationships, self-discovery and personal growth. Through education and self-discovery we begin to heal ourselves. As we step outside ourselves, it becomes a conscious choice to make a difference in the lives of others and help lesson our impact and devastation on mother earth.
